Press NoticesHI – 01 24 July 2003 GENERAL MATTERSJunior Counsel Lord Hutton is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr David Kelly. The Secretary to the Inquiry, Lee Hughes, announced today that Lord Hutton has appointed Peter Knox of 3 Hare Court as Junior Counsel to the Inquiry. James Dingemans QC was appointed as Senior Counsel to the Inquiry earlier this week. Venue The hearing venue will be Courtroom 73 in the Royal Courts of Justice. A media annex will be established in an adjacent courtroom. Start Date As the date of Dr Kelly's funeral has not yet been confirmed, Mr Hughes said it is still too early to give a date for the Inquiry's first public sitting. Media Mr Hughes said that the public hearings of the Inquiry will, of course, be open to the media. The press and other sections of the media will be able to report the entirety of the public hearings, save that it is Lord Hutton's present intention that the evidence of witnesses to the Inquiry and applications in the course of the Inquiry will not be filmed or broadcast. However, TV filming and radio broadcasting of opening and closing statements may take place. Lord Hutton will hear any representations which may be made to him in the course of the Inquiry in relation to this and other matters at his first sitting. Transcripts All the public hearings, including the evidence of witnesses, will be recorded and a full transcript will be available to all sections of the media and to the public almost immediately.
